Optionally connect to longer loops of 3 to 7 miles, or to the 2182-mile Appalachian Trail. At adjacent Parkway Milepost 5.8, explore the restored 1890s Humpback Rocks Mountain Farm. The scenic 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway was built 1935-1987 to aesthetically connect Shenandoah National Park (in Virginia) with Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina, following crestlines and the Appalachian Trail.
