See highlands and Paramo (above treeline) landscape above the Black Sheep Inn, near Chugchilan, along the Lago Quilotoa driving loop, Ecuador, the Andes, South America. The Páramo is a high elevation ecosystem in tropical South America (neotropical) between the upper forest line (about 3800 m altitude) and the permanent snow line (about 5000 m). The ecosystem contains mostly glacier formed valleys and plains with a large variety of lakes, peat bogs and wet grasslands intermingled with shrublands and forest patches.
